One of the latest innovations currently being used by cosmetic surgeons for body contouring and body sculpting is Water Jet Assisted liposuction. It can be used to treat several areas of the body during the same treatment session.
A novel alternative to traditional liposuction, water jet assisted liposuction is gentle, fast and effective for smaller cases, fine tuning and even High-Def Liposculpting. Virtually any area of the body with excessive fat deposits may be treated with the most common areas being the abdomen, breasts, hips, thighs, knees, arms and below the chin.
After the procedure, the skin is smooth to the touch, often with less bruising, swelling and soreness that is associated with standard liposuction techniques. Water Jet Assisted liposuction, also called Body Jet, Aqua Lipo, and AquaShape Lipo, has proven to be a noticeable improvement compared to traditional methods.
As the numbing fluid is sprayed into the treatment area and takes effect, the fluid is partially removed, making it easier for the surgeon to see the contour, rather than when the area is “tumesced”, which is filled with liters of numbing fluid and allowed to take effect before any suctioning can be comfortably performed. Pain control is nearly immediate with Water Jet numbing followed by immediate aspiration!
Another cool thing is that the fat that is “power washed” out of an area of excess fat is great for sterilely collecting and grafting back into other areas of your body where you would like more fat, such as your breasts or butt or lateral hips. This way, you can naturally enlarge areas where Mother Nature was not as generous as you would have liked!
Water Jet Assisted liposuction is fairly gentle and causes less trauma than traditional liposculpting techniques. Once the patient is enjoying twilight sedation, the cosmetic surgeon uses a thin cannula to spray anesthesia throughout the treatment area. Next, a fan-shaped jet of saline or very dilute anesthesia is pulsed under firm pressure to gently dislodge the fat cells away from the other structures.
The fat and fluid are suctioned out simultaneously. This allows the cosmetic surgeon to carefully avoid damage to most of the neighboring blood vessels and nerves, and concentrate on permanently removing the fat cells themselves. When the fat is vacuumed from the body this way, it allows the skin to contract and gives that area a more proportional and sculpted appearance.
The Water Jet Assisted Liposuction technique was developed in Germany by HumanMed. It is FDA approved for liposculpting in the United States. It greatly reduces the amount of fluid that is left within the treatment area tissue after traditional liposuction.
Without the swelling or bloating from traditional tumescent anesthesia, the cosmetic surgeon may be able to do a more thorough evaluation during the procedure and achieve the desired body contour with greater precision. Laser can be used after the liposuction part of the procedure to further tighten the skin about 20%, if that is desired.
Water Jet Assisted liposuction often can have a shorter recovery time, in part because the use of water means that there is less tissue trauma to the body than physically rasping the fat out. Usually very little bruising or swelling occurs after the procedure. This allows patients to return to their normal activities sooner. In fact, many patients report being nearly pain-free and back to work after only a few days!
