If you’re concerned about how your facial features are defying your true age, you’ve probably investigated various cosmetic treatments. These include resurfacing, chemical peels, laser treatment, and a facelift. One of the most popular new techniques being performed today is PRP therapy, also known as a vampire facelift. This procedure isn’t a true facelift, but the resulting smoother skin makes it look as though you had a facelift performed, hence the common name. The benefits are many, the most important being long-lasting results, low risk of side effects, and healthier skin that is not only even in tone but also free of wrinkles and superficial scarring.
Candidates For A Vampire Facelift
As the name implies, the blood is drawn from the client and used to stimulate new tissue production. The ideal candidate will be in good overall health, not dealing with any serious cardiovascular problems, and have facial skin that is showing the usual signs of aging.
Brittle, dull skin, prominent injury or acne scars, fine line wrinkles, and dark spots such as liver spots can be treated with a vampire facelift. Not only does the skin appear smoother after treatment and the rejuvenation period, it is also more supple and elastic with less visible wrinkling.
First, we consult with the client, talk about medical history, and explore all treatment options. If we determine that the client can benefit from PRP therapy, we will schedule a treatment session. In most cases, we may draw up a treatment plan that includes two or more PRP therapy sessions.
On the day of the treatment, we draw a small amount of blood from the client’s arm. This blood is spun in a centrifuge until the platelets and plasma are separated from the red cells. The plasma will have a very high concentration of platelets. The platelets contain proteins and other growth factors necessary for the creation of new skin tissue.
After the subdermal tissues are flooded with platelets, the body responds by sending additional nutrients to the affected area. In other words, the body is responding the same way it would if an injury involving bleeding has occurred.
The face will be flushed for a short time, but this soon dissipates. The period of rejuvenation may take about a month or so. During this time, collagen production increases, and extra skin is being produced below the surface. Eventually, the old epidermis is shed in favor of a new superficial layer, one that is smoother, more evenly toned, and without dark regions.
