As people grow older, their muscles and skin around their eye can start to become loose and sag. Also, the fatty cushion between the eyes can begin to bulge out. All of these things combined can make the eyes puffy and make a person look old and tired.
However, sagging, puffy eyes aren’t just merely a cosmetic issue. They can also cause practical problems as well. For instance, looser skin folds can limit a person’s peripheral vision and could cause an accident, especially while driving. The solution may be a kind of cosmetic surgery known as blepharoplasty that’s often referred to as an eye lift.
At Las Vegas Laser and Lipo, Dr. Edward Zimmerman can help restore eyelids with blepharoplasty. This procedure can not only help with tired, puffy looking eyes, but can help restore a more youthful appearance. To find out if blepharoplasty is right for you, contact Las Vegas Laser and Lipo today. We’ll help determine the best treatment plan for your needs.
How can blepharoplasty reverse the signs of aging?
Blepharoplasty works to address the various signs of aging that commonly affects the eyes, which may include the following:
- Bags or puffiness below or above the eyes
- Eyelids that sag down into your vision field
- Upper eyelid skin that sags
- Fine lines and excess skin on the lower eyelids
- Eyelid skin that droops and obscures the contour of the eyelid
- Excess fatty deposits on the eyelid
For anyone who’s ever experienced any of these symptoms that affect their eye or eye area, may find they can benefit from blepharoplasty and fulfill their goals of rejuvenating their face for a more youthful appearance. Botox injections can sometimes be used in conjunction or even in place of blepharoplasty, especially to soften crow’s feet.
The Many Benefits of Blepharoplasty
A blepharoplasty procedure can offer a number of beauty benefits in addition to the benefit of having a better line of vision. Even though the benefits of blepharoplasty are unique to every patient, usually the procedure involves the following:
- More awake and alert appearance
- A rejuvenated and refreshed eye appearance
- No more obscured vision due to droopy eyelid skin
The eyes are generally the first thing people see when they look at you and therefore say a lot about your appearance. Droopy eyelids can make you appear more tired and older than you actually are or feel. Also, crow’s feet are a key sign of aging. Therefore, an eyelid lift can greatly help soften those lines and work to restore your eyes to a more youthful, alert appearance overall.
How does a blepharoplasty procedure work?
Blepharoplasty is routinely done on an outpatient basis, which means that the patient can go home on the same day of the procedure. Oral sedation or local anesthesia is sometimes administered to relieve minimal discomfort. Upper eyelid surgery is typically done first, and then the lower. An incision will be made and the amount of excess skin and fat will be eliminated as necessary, after which the incision will be closed by using small sutures.
A minimal amount of bruising and/or swelling may occur following the surgery, in some cases there is none. Also, some patients have some degree of dry eye after the procedure and need medication to help address the problem. Light sensitivity, numb eyelids, and minimal pain are what most people experience afterwards. If swelling or bruising does occur, often a cold compress helps.
