What is Regenerative Medicine?
Autologous adipose-derived rejuvenative cells – or rejuvenative cells – can help treat some of the world’s most common medical diseases. A burgeoning and exciting new field in medicine, rejuvenative cells are now being used to help treat the symptoms of joint aging and degeneration, pulmonary disease, fibromyalgia and several autoimmune disorders.
Regenerative Medicine works by harvesting samples of cells from one area of the patient’s body, gently isolating them, and transferring them immediately to other areas of the patient’s body to help treat damage or disease.
How Does Regenerative Medicine Work?
To begin the process, a small amount of fat (3-6 ounces, typically) is extracted from your abdomen, thigh or flank area(s) in a mini liposuction procedure done with just local anesthetic. Next, the fat samples are spun down in a centrifuge, separating the fat cells from the rejuvenative cells.
Once the rejuvenative cells are extracted from the sample, they are enriched with your own platelet-rich plasma (PRP), prepared from a small blood sample and a separate process done concurrently. The resulting sample now not only contains rejuvenative cells that may repair tissue damage, and contain the growth factors that promote cell regeneration and improve blood circulation.
Next, the rejuvenative cells are restored to the patient by intravenous drip and/or injected directly into the damaged area of joint, muscle, or tissue.
In cosmetic procedures, the rejuvenation cells can be injected with a fine needle to enhance and shape treated areas. At Las Vegas Laser and Lipo, we currently offer treatments that use your own PRP (platelet rich plasma) and sometimes a bit of filler:
What are the Benefits of Regenerative Medicine?
Using rejuvenative cells offers no guarantees and is not yet approved by the FDA, but continuing studies worldwide are showing that regenerative medicine can have positive and beneficial effects. What to be aware of:
- Results may be noted in days and gradually improve over months, but can last for over a year.
- The risk of allergic reactions and side effects are minimal, as this treatment utilizes the patient’s own cells.
- In cosmetic cases, results can be comparable to using synthetic dermal fillers and bruising may be decreased.
