Liposuction is an extremely common procedure for people looking to reduce the amount of fat they have on their body. You will have two different surgery options once you decide to get liposuction: laser lipo or traditional liposuction. Each procedure has their set of advantages and disadvantages that you must consider before getting your liposuction surgery.
The biggest difference of traditional liposuction and laser lipo is the way the fat is removed from the body. A large incision on the body will be made during traditional liposuction near the problem areas you are looking to fix. This large incision allows us to remove the excess fat from under the skin with a suction device. Due to the large incision, you will have to go under general anesthesia for traditional liposuction.
Unlike traditional liposuction, only a small incision is made during a laser lipo procedure. Once the tiny incisions are made on the body, a laser is inserted just under the skin. This laser uses heat energy to melt the fat and tighten your skin at the same time. The unwanted fat will be suctioned from the body as the laser melts it away. Since only small incisions are used, you will only have to go under local anesthesia during this procedure. This means that you will be awake during the entire surgery, but you will not feel any pain.
The appearance of the skin is something you need to consider when choosing between traditional liposuction and laser lipo. The traditional liposuction procedure does not have any way to tighten the skin after the excess fat is removed from the body. You will be able to tighten your skin with exercise, but there is still a small chance you will experience sagging skin after getting traditional liposuction. This will never occur with the laser lipo procedure.
The recovery process is also extremely different between traditional and laser lipo. Since you are placed under general anesthesia during a traditional liposuction surgery, you will be forced to spend a few days in the hospital. The amount of time you must stay in the hospital ultimately depends on the amount of fat removed from the body. Once you are able to go home, you will notice significant bruising on the body. Since these bruises near the incision site can be extremely painful, you must spend a few weeks recovering at home before you are ready to go back to your normal activities.
Recovery from laser lipo is a much faster process. Since you are only placed under local anesthesia, you will be able to go home immediately after the laser lipo procedure is complete. While you can go home after the procedure, you will be sore due to minor bruising and swelling near the incision sites. You should have no problem walking around the house, but it will take a few days before you are ready to go back to your normal routine.
Now that you know the differences between laser and traditional liposuction, you will be able to choose the procedure that best fits your needs.
