An aging face comes in many ways including sagging skin, wrinkles and lines. The major cause of lines, wrinkles and sagging skin is the lack of fullness. As you get older, you lose fat from your face, and your skin is no longer supple and smooth. The loss of collagen stops at around the age of 25 years and is also responsible for the lack of fullness. There are several procedures used to restore the fullness of a person’s face, and these include glycolic peels and a liquid facelift.
What are Glycolic Peels?
Glycolic acid is acquired from sugar cane. Glycolic acid consists of alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) that is used for facial peels. Many glycolic acid formulas have acid concentrations that go beyond 50% and very few, such as those sold over the counter, contain 3-10% acid concentration, making them less effective.
Glycolic acid peels remove the top skin layer that consists of dead cells and reveals another layer that is vibrant and smooth textured. Glycolic peels are used for minor skin discolorations, dry patches, and fine lines. Additionally, they treat acne and minimize or remove acne scars.
Glycolic peels contribute to the production of collagen, a protein that is crucial in giving the skin its structure. Collagen is lost because of sun exposure and aging and is a contributing factor to the formation of wrinkles and lines.
How Treatment with Glycolic Peels is Administered
Glycolic acid peel is given in concentrations of 20-80%. The higher the concentration, the more the glycolic peel will remove dead skin tissue. In some cases, glycolic acid can be combined with some other treatment to effectively remove the skin’s top layer.
A liquid facelift refers to a procedure of plumping, lifting, smoothing, filling and re-countering the skin through injectable dermal fillers.
The Procedure for a Liquid FaceLift
Liquid facelifts are used in combination with filler injections and anti-wrinkle treatments to remedy sagging skin and restore a youthful appearance. Different areas of your face such as the jawline and cheekbones will be sculpted to get a good glimpse at the areas to be treated.
Liquid facelifts are used for reducing folds, creases and wrinkles and to mask eye bags in addition to stimulating collagen production. The recovery time for this procedure is a couple of days.
The risks associated with liquid facelifts are few compared to glycolic peels. Since this procedure does not involve making incisions, the risk of getting an infection is minimal.
