Does losing your annoying muffin top or love handles seem like mission impossible? Cat tummy or midriff bulge annoying your tailor? Even though you exercise and eat healthy, do you still find it difficult to lose those last few pounds that you parents genetically gifted to you? If so, then perhaps CoolSculpting is for you. CoolSculpting can eliminate-not shrink, but ELIMINATE-those stubborn fat cells in an easy, non-intrusive manner.
What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting was created by researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital and developed by Harvard scientists. It is a patented and manufactured here in the USA. It is an FDA approved process for eliminating unwanted fat by cooling fat cells located between the skin and muscle until the water inside them crystallizes. As a result of this cooling process, the treated fat cells are damaged, unable to repair themselves and then broken down by the body and eliminated (Apoptosis) naturally. CoolSculpting is so high tech that it selectively freezes fat cells, but won’t harm skin or other tissue that freeze at much lower temperatures or are not as sensitive to the temporary cold.
How is the procedure performed?
After your consultation, pictures are taken in multiple views; measurements and markings performed; you are positioned comfortably and a special skin protecting sheet is placed on the treatment area (discrete island of fat). Finally, the treatment head (different shapes and sizes for different areas) is carefully positioned. Vacuum pressure draws the fatty tissue between the cooling plates inside the head, which in very high tech fashion, extracts enough heat to freeze some of the fat cells.
The sensation is tolerable for the majority of patients. Most patients read, work on a laptop, listen to music or just relax during the procedure. Immediately following the procedure the treated tissue bulges out like a cold stick of butter, which the technician massages flat. Patients usually resume normal activities immediately. Over the next two to four months, the body gradually eliminates the affected fat cells naturally. This reduces the thickness of the treatment area about 20 percent with each treatment. You can literally sculpt your body with multiple CoolSculpting treatments done over time to adjacent areas.
Who is an ideal candidate for CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is intended for individuals who are relatively fit and looking to get rid of those last few inches. An ideal candidate for CoolSculpting is 10 to 15 pounds from their goal weight, but has problem areas that stubbornly resist diet and exercise. CoolSculpting is not intended for weight loss and shouldn’t be seen as a cure for obesity, but it’s a great, conservative, non-surgical alternative to liposuction if you just want to fit better in your clothing. CoolSculpting is a wonderful option for people who have tried diet and exercise, but can’t seem to lose those last few pounds and don’t want to try invasive procedures.
What are the benefits of CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is an easy, non-intrusive technique that is effective against troublesome areas that just don’t seem to respond to diet and exercise. With CoolSculpting, a portion of fat can be eliminated without the risks associated with surgery or anesthesia. Patients experience very little downtime and can return to their normal activities right away. Non-invasive procedures such as CoolSculpting have a much lower potential for complications. Because CoolSculpting permanently kills fat cells in an area, your new contour will stay proportional as your weight goes up or down.
CoolSculpting is simple to fit into your schedule. Each treatment/area takes about one hour to perform – the same amount of time you might spend at the gym. CoolSculpting can be used on many areas of the body where you can pinch at least an inch of fat and have moderate to good skin elasticity.
Single treatments of multiple areas, or repeated or overlapping treatments to manage a single area, can be performed in a single day. Repeat treatments of the same area are usually done 2 months apart, but are sometimes done one right after the other with additive results.
Whether your goal is to achieve a flat stomach, inner thighs that don’t touch, love handles or armpits that don’t jiggle when you move, or just be able lose those last few pounds of flab, CoolSculpting can help. Cosmetic surgeons report an overwhelmingly positive response from men and women alike who look and feel better as a result of CoolSculpting.
Is CoolSculpting painful?
The first five minutes of the procedure can be a little uncomfortable, but not unbearable. Most patients feel a strong sensation of pulling for the first few minutes until the cooling plates begin to numb the area. It becomes increasingly tolerable until the area is essentially “frozen”. The treated area looks firm and feels like a soft popsicle immediately after the procedure. This is normal. The shape and texture dissipates within minutes.
Firm massage helps shatter more fat cells while they are still partially frozen. The vacuum used to draw the tissue into the treatment head can cause bruising, tingling or tenderness to the touch afterwards. You may feel a temporary numbness in the treated area, but this is normal and generally resolves within a few hours to a few days. Rarely, tenderness can last several weeks before it goes away.
Usually, tylenol is all that is needed to improve comfort. Use of Advil and Motrin like drugs is discouraged initially, as they may decrease the “good” inflammation that is breaking down more fat cells!
How quickly will I see results?
Many patients will start notice some results within three to four weeks. However, the treatment’s full effects take a few months to materialize because your body needs time to naturally dispose of the fat cells. The body continues to flush the damaged fat cells four to six months after treatment. Long term results of CoolSculpting can be maintained with normal diet and exercise. Unlike other treatments, there are no elevations of cholesterol, lipids or liver enzymes.
While one treatment usually makes a nice difference, your doctor may recommend that additional treatments are necessary. The same area may be treated immediately or two to four months after the initial treatment to achieve an even greater reduction in fat.
It’s important to note that although CoolSculpting can eliminate fat, technology alone can’t do all the work, it also takes some commitment on your part. Doctors advise that a good program to maintain weight involves proper diet, regular exercise, weight training, aerobic activity, plenty of fluids and good sleeping habits.
The staff at Las Vegas Laser & Lipo have performed over 1000 successful CoolSculpting treatments in their first 18 months of working with this new technology. They utilize the most up to date equipment and protocols available.
