Liposuction is a surgery technique used to remove stubborn fat deposits that don’t respond to diet or exercise. It is used to sculpt the body, but it is not a weight loss technique. Check with the surgeon to see if it can be performed by itself or in conjunction with another type of surgery such as breast augmentation.

Types of liposuction
In traditional liposuction, a surgeon uses a cannula, or thin tube, that is connected to a suction pump. The surgeon makes an incision on the target site and inserts the cannula into it. He manipulates the cannula to break up the fat and then uses the suction the pump to remove it.
Tumescent liposuction is similar to traditional liposuction, but a surgeon injects a special solution into the fat. The solution makes the fat cells swell up, and it is thus easier to isolate and remove them. The solution also shrinks blood vessels and reduces bleeding.
In ultrasonic liposuction, a surgeon uses a special cannula that produces ultrasound. When aimed at the fat cells, the ultrasound liquefies them and enables the surgeon to remove them. The procedure lets the surgeon remove larger fat deposits. Ultrasonic liposuction also has the advantage of letting the surgeon tighten nearby skin.
In power assisted liposuction, a surgeon may use a cannula with a vibrating tip that can break up fat deposits and make them easier to remove. Like ultrasonic liposuction, power assisted liposuction enables the doctor to remove more fat deposits. The procedure lets the surgeon make smaller incisions and move the cannula more precisely.
Laser liposuction involves using a cannula with a laser fiber in it. A surgeon makes an incision and inserts the cannula into the targeted fat layer. He then directs the laser beam onto the fat cells, and its energy and heat destroys them without damaging neighboring tissues.
The laser’s heat also stimulates collagen production and thus tightens the skin. There are several different techniques, and they are designed to remove different amounts of fat or remove it from different parts of the body.
Who is a good candidate?
The ideal candidate is an adult who is at least 18 years old with overall good health. They should also be near their ideal body weight and have realistic expectations. People with good skin elasticity tend to get the best results.
